The collection documents the professional career of General Gordon R. Sullivan, particularly his years as army chief of staff. Among these materials are copies of official calendars, correspondence, speeches, reviews and reports, 1991-1995. Also included are publications by or about Gordon R. Sullivan, 1981-2004. Other publications also reflect his interest in leadership and humanitarian demining. Events he attended as chief of staff are also documented. There are materials relating to the publication of his book, Hope is not a Method, 1995-1997, and certificates presented, 1966-1995. Of particular interest are General Sullivan's personal notes and notebooks, 1987-1997 (bulk). There are also personal papers in the collection including correspondence and other papers documenting Gordon Sullivan's time at Norwich University, 1954-1959. Gordon R. Sullivan was a United States U.S.) Army officer who was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant through the R.O.T.C. (Reserve Officers Training Corps) program at Norwich University where he graduated in 1959.
