John Tyler letter to Robert Tyler [manuscript], 1861 April 18.

Tyler expresses concern that his son has been threatened by a Vigilance Committee. Urges him to "leave than be under suspicion and surveillance," noting that he has learned "that persons are not permitted to pass on South through Washingtion--Virginia is no longer a State of the old Union. She went out on the 16th." With the letter is a hand colored engraving of Tyler, n.d.
