The collection contains a letter, 1829 August 5, from William Wertenbaker to Albert Holladay on a business matter and announcing his appointment as Assistant Proctor at the University of Virginia. A letter, 1847 August 17, from Henry Clay, declines the invitation of the Citizens of Albemarle to visit. A letter, ca. 1861 March 14, George W. Leftwich, Richmond, to "Woodfin" discusses "war fever" in Richmond, his reasons for enlisting, his intention of joining Gaston Otey's Light Artillery, exemptions, and their romances. He notes that "croakers are daily and hourly believing and predicting our destruction." The collection also contains an autographed print of George Frederick Holmes; a five shilling note, printed by James Adams in 1776; and a copy of General Order No. 9, Headquarters of Army of Northern Virginia, Appomatox Court House, signed by Robert E.
