Papers relating to Dierenfield's biography of Howard W. Smith [manuscript], 1969-1985.

The collection includes a transcript of an oral history interview with Smith done at Cornell University in 1969; a copy of the Bi-Centennial Edition of the Alexandria Gazette, 1984; and electrostatic copies of Smith correspondence and school material from Bethel Military Academy and the University of Virginia, some of which was copied from originals in the Library of Virginia. The collection also contains twenty photographs and photographs of cartoons used as illustrations in the biography. James Jackson Kilpatrick is a correspondent.
