In the letter to Dr. Utley, Jefferson describes the personal habits that have led to good health throughout his life. In the letter to the New York Society, Jefferson responds to a pamphlet on communal societies, wishing their efforts success, but stating his belief that the surest way for "ameliorating the condition, promoting the virtue, and advancing the happiness of man" is to promote education. The verso of the clipping contains a letter to the editor advocating the election of Crawford as president in 1824.
