Papers of Thomas Jefferson, 1818 and n.d. [manuscript].

In an August 15, 1818, letter of introduction, Jefferson recomends Edmund Bacon, his Monticello farm manager, who is removing to the Missouri as an "honest, correct man...worthy of confidence," and particularly desires Governor William Clark to aid him if possible. In a September 14, 1820 postscript, Thomas Mann Randolph assures recipients that Bacon continues in good standing with the family and neighbors. With the letter are copies of a carte-de-visite and daguerreotype of Bacon.
