Papers of Alfred C. Garnett [manuscript], 1868-1945.

The collection contains family correspondence; business and legal papers of Garnett including daybooks, inventories, financial statements, check stubs, advertising circulars and catalogs, correspondence with wholesalers, license applications and insurance policies. Correspondence and other papers document his civic activities and association with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South and its charitable and mission endeavors, the Republican Party and the Masons, including the West Buckingham Methodist Episcopal Church Quarterly Conference records, 1922-1930, and the Mutual Benefit Fire Insurance Association, Buckingham Division Minutes, 1895-1897. There are also business and legal papers of his father Alfred C. Garnett of Steger, Garnett and Company and A.C. Garnett and Son of Curdsville, Virginia; and of his son Frank McC. Garnett. Of interest are letters from his children at various Virginia colleges and in the banking and mining business; letters and bills, 1927-1928, from the Richmond Sanatorium where his daughter was hospitalized for a mental illness; two letters, 1938, concerning the Virginia anti-lynch law; and a letter, 1915, to Charles D. Hillis, chairman of the Republican National Committee concerning the effects of the "National Administration."
