Rose Terry Cooke was born in West Hartford, Conn., graduated from the Hartford Female Seminary in 1843, and married Rollin H. Cooke in 1873. Mary Noilles Murfree, author, was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on 24 January 1850, and died there on 31 July 1922. She never married and was first published in 1873.
