4 page manuscript "Bahia or Washington Naval Orange (copy): a report written by Mr. William Saunders and copied by his daughter in 1911; ". . .exact copy from my father's writing," B. C. Saunders, Feb. 28th. The report describes the introduction of the navel orange to the United States from Brazil. The New York State Grange (copy): typed copy of a report on the history of the Grange by Mrs. E. S. McDowell at the 50th anniversary of the New York State Grange at Syracuse, New York, February 7, 1923 (9 pages). Also, a 4 page printed circular on the National Grange containing excerpts of a letter of William Saunders, title: "With a Vision Almost Prophetic," circa 1928.

William Saunders (1822-1900) horticulturist and landscape gardener, was appointed Superintendent of the Experimental Gardens of the newly created Department of Agriculture in 1862. He established and extensive collection of trees on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. and developed a system of street tree-planting used in the District of Columbia in the 1870.
