Della Thomas collection, circa 1913-2004.

The collection contains books, figurines, ornaments, note cards, calendars, posters, dolls, phonograph records, audio tapes, slides and memorabilia. Material used include: ceramic, resin, Styrofoam, paper, fabric, metal, slides and crystal. Della Thomas collected all types of artifacts related to the Lewis Carroll characters created for Alice in Wonderland and Alice through the looking glass. Sir John Tenniel's illustrations of Carroll's works are prominent throughout the collection. Other illustrators include Walt Disney, Liz Reber, Barry Moser, Jane Breskin Zalben, and others. The slides collected by Della Thomas during her travels feature locations and settings of various children's stories.

Lewis Carroll, born Charles Lutwidge Dodson was born in England at Daresbury, Cheshire, to Charles Dodgson, an Anglican clergyman, and his wife Frances Jane Lutwidge on January 27, 1832. In 1851, Dodgson matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford, and in 1855 was appointed to a mathematical lectureship in that college, of which he remained a member for the rest of his life.
