Joseph Hewitt (1848-1923) was born in Indiana, married there in 1879. He moved to Ohio and Kansas City, Mo. He worked as an art glass worker in his in-law's business. Joseph and Mary Hewitt went to Southeast Alaska in the fall of 1908 to visit their two daughters. Dorothy Hewitt was a government teacher in Hoonah and Helen Hewitt was teaching at Klawock. In the summer of 1909 Joseph, Mary and Dorothy camped over 500 miles of Southeast Alaska, returning to Kansas City in the spring of 1910. In 19...
