Oscar Michel Tschirky papers, [ca.1895-1950].

Includes six scrapbooks of clippings, telegrams, and correspondence on his career at the Waldorf-Astoria, c.1897-1950; one scrapbook of forms used at the hotel; two published booklets on staff functions; photographs of Oscar and his wife Sophie Bertisch Tschirky; and an etching and a sketch of the Waldorf-Astoria. Also scrapbooks, a guest book, recipes, a scrapbook of congratulatory letters from many famous personalities, photographs signed by various presidents, and a tribute book given to the Tschirkys on their golden wedding anniversary, 1937.

The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel was originally built as the Waldorf Hotel at Fifth Avenue and 33rd St. in New York City in 1893 and was merged with the Astoria Hotel in 1897. The hotel was torn down in 1929 and the new Waldorf-Astoria Hotel opened in 1931 on Park Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets.
