The life of William Cowper till the age of 40 / written by himself, 1819.

Apparently a transcription of the manuscript published in 1816 as the Memoir of the early life of William Cowper, Esq., re-published in numerous editions, under various titles. (Cf. Russell, Bibliography of William Cowper, Oxford, 1863, p. 192-195.) The name of the copyist, Anne White, partially erased, appears on title page, above the date Oct. 1, 1819. Facing the title is a copy of Lawrence's portrait of Cowper (1793), or of the Bartolozzi engraving after the Lawrence portrait. Included following the autobiography are A letter addressed to the Revd. Mr. Bull (p. [1]-[6] at end), Lines composed upon the death of his uncle (p. [7] at end), and Lines by Dr. Cowper, son of Judge Cowper & father of the poet Wm. Cowper (p. [8]-[9] at end).

1 v. (84, [9] p.) ; 19 cm.
