George Bartley letters, 1819-1836.

Letters Bartley wrote from various cities in America and England, mainly to John Wakefield Francis, but with individual letters also to J. Smith, E. Magrath, and R. Keely. Topics include the public and press reception of performances by himself and his wife, Sarah Bartley; their earnings from performances; Bartley's opinion of the various cities where they are performing; and the health of their daughter Sophia. Also included are a few letters of recommendation, including one for Bartley's nephew and another for a Mr. Conway, and a draft of an advertisement for a benefit to be given for Bartley.

Her career included roles in plays by Mrs. Inchbald, Thomas Holcroft and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and upon a visit to Dublin in 1808, she performed a musical piece composed for her by Thomas Moore.
