Henry Green was born in Chicago on January 11, 1904 and grew up in Gary, Indiana. He moved with his family to Detroit some years later. He graduated from the University of Michigan Dental School in 1929 and was married a year later to Edna Sklar. Dr. Green's dental office was located on Detroit's east side for the entire fifty-one years of his practice. He was very active in a number of organizations, both professional and personal. Outside of museum holdings, no comprehensive survey and inventory of campus artwork had been attempted since 1937. With support from the Michigan Commission on Art in Public Places, 1,076 items were inventoried during 1988-1990.
