Willis F. Betts letters, 1943-1945.

Letters written by a U.S. Army Air Force trainee, cadet and then pilot, to his fiancee and then wife Helen Jennings. He wrote detailed letters about his experiences at various training camps throughout the United States, including learning to fire a tommie gun, learning to fly, and receiving new planes. He also complained about the various camps, training, and the hazing he received as a cadet. In 1944, just after his graduation, Betts married Helen and they settled in Westport, Connecticut. By August of that year, Betts was in Italy aboard an aircraft carrier; the following year he was stationed at Okinawa. Also includes one letter written by Helen to Willis, and two letters written to Helen by two of Willis's army buddies.
