The collection includes professional correspondence, notes, surveys, data and instruments for social isolate study, research done in collaboration with Gunnar Myrdahl, galleys, proofs and other papers associated with Arnold Rose's publications. Personal documents include term papers, a diary, themes, U.S. Army documents, work-related documents, and correspondence. Also included are papers relating to libel suit and a copy of his "Libel and academic freedom." Materials from various conferences, and a substantial collection of published and unpublished manuscripts are also included in this collection.

Arnold M. Rose was a University of Minnesota sociology professor, who was widely known for his studies on African Americans, the aged, mental health, and the unions in America. He was elected to the Minnesota legislature in 1962. In 1964, Rose successfully brought a libel suit against the Christian Research Inc. group, although the award was set aside by the State Supreme Court.
