George DeFrees Shepardson papers, 1887-1924.

The collection includes papers relating to the Baptist church, personal papers (bills, travel items, insurance, investment and family letters),patents documents, professional correspondence (regarding the Dept. of Electrical Engineering), speeches, and course outlines. A collection of materials relating to Shepardson's publications includes royalty memos, manuscripts, correspondence regarding "Elements of electrical engineering" and "Historical sketch of the Electrical Engineering Department." Also included are electrical museum data, two copies of a manuscript on lighting, an original draft of Shepardson's thesis, and "Notes on Fourier series (1911-12) and "Notes of radiotelegraphic engineering" (1911).

George DeFrees Shepardson was born in 1864 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He received his B.A. from Denison University (1885), his M. A. in languages from Cornell University (1888), and a Mechanical Engineering degree in 1889. During his sabbatical year in 1912, he earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University. In 1891, Dr. Shepardson accepted a position at the University of Minnesota, where he remained until his death in 1926.
