Handwritten letter from unknown author to unknown recipient [likely in Conn.] during the Gold Rush era of California describing a river voyage on the Steamer Martha Dane (Captain Roland) from Sacramento City to Maryville, Calif. via Vernon and Fremont at the juncture of the Sacramento and Feather Rivers. Other towns noted include: Plumas, Nicholas, El Dorado, and Yuba City. Other details include descriptions of the countryside, comparisons to Connecticut and New England, and places visited such as "Hoc [sic] Farm, the present residence of Capt. Sutter and family..."
