Iowa City People's Bicentennial Commission records, 1973-1976.

This collection consists of the Iowa City group's constitution and by-laws (1975), correspondence (1973-1976), newsletters and publicity, minutes of meetings, membership records, financial records, news clippings, and materials related to group projects such as a 1975 Iowa City street fair, and PBC sponsored responses to the Freedom Train and the Armed Forces Bicentennial Caravan. The collection also includes documents from the Davenport, Iowa People's Bicentennial Commission, PBC publications and press releases, 2 records (45 rpm) from the Voices of '76 series produced by the PBC for public service announcements, and a 16mm PBC film titled Declaration of Independence.

Himie Voxman is among UI's most honored faculty and administrators. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the UI with high distinction in 1933, and received a master's degree in 1934 in the psychology of music, studying with pioneering researcher Carl Seashore. The Iowa City People's Bicentennial Commission was organized in 1975 as a student group by the Center for Peace and Justice on the University of Iowa campus. The Iowa City organization was affiliated with the national non-profit organization, the People's Bicentennial Commission (PBC), founded in 1971 to commemorate the 200th birthday of the United States by stimulating a renewed commitment to American democratic ideals as perceived by the group.
