Hiero T. Wilson, was born at Russellville, Kentucky, September 2, 1806. He joined his brother in Indian Territory in 1834. In 1843, when Fort Scott was established as a military post, he was appointed its sutler (precursor to quartermaster), holding the position for ten years. When the post was abandoned in 1855, Wilson continued in business. He died August 6, 1892; but not before the post had become a prosperous city.
