Pat Gagliardi papers 1981 - 1998

This collection documents Pat Gagliardi's political career in the Michigan House of Representatives. The collection includes, but is not limited to, newspaper clippings, brochures, correspondence, petitions, laws, bills, personal notes, grant applications, blue prints, maps, reports and studies, meeting minutes, and photographs. Among the most significant subjects of interest to the researcher are Gagliardi's work with the Department of Mental Health, including the controversial closing of the Newberry, Coldwater, and Muskegon mental health facilities. Other significant issues include the Alger County Underwater Shipwreck Preserve, the Curtis Library Restoration, and the DeTour Reef Lighthouse. Other important records include project and information files for the counties in Gagliardi's district (Luce, Mackinaw, Chippewa, and Schoolcraft counties, news releases, newsletters, legislation, and general issues. Patrick (Pat) M. Gagliardi was born in Bay City, Michigan, on December 14, 1950. He graduated from Midland High School and went on to receive his B.A. degree from Lake Superior State University in 1974. Gagliardi was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives as a Democrat in November 1982. He represented district 107, which included most of the eastern Upper Peninsula, until 1998.
