Representative Stanley Powell papers 1969-1970.

MS 74-10 consists of various legislative papers of Michigan Rep. Stanley M. Powell for the years 1969-1970. The collection mainly contains correspondence highlighting constituent problems with government bureaucracy. There is correspondence with the Republican Party featuring party agenda and plans, correspondence with the Ionia County Clerk's Office, and a sampling of "thank you letters" of support and recognition of public service well-performed.

Stanley M. Powell was born July 7, 1898 in Ionia, Mich. He received a B.S. in agriculture from the Michigan Agriculture College in 1920. He was elected to the state legislature in 1930, and lost in 1932 with the New Deal landslide. He worked at the Michigan Farm Bureau as its legislative council and director of public affairs, and was also active in the Michigan State Grange, 1932-1966.
