Desegregating unions during World War II : Los Angeles Basin.

Presents interviews with five narrators involved in the struggle to desegregate two of the unions representing aircraft and ship workers during World War 2: the International Association of Machinists (IAM/AFL) and the Boilermakers Union (CIO). Herbert Ward, Walter Williams, and Spencer Wiley were trade union activists directly challenging Jim Crow practices; Clayton Russell was a pastor of the Peoples Independent Church and a major civil rights activist during the war, leader of the Negro Victory Committee; and labor and civil liberties lawyer Ben Margolis played a prominent role in the anti-discrimination suits filed against the shipyards.
