Alice Stone Ilchman (1935-) became president of Sarah Lawrence College in 1981. Prior to her appointment as President, Dr. Ilchman served during the Carter Administration as Assistant Secretary for Education and Cultural Affairs in the Department of State and as Associate Director for Educational and Cultural Affairs in the United States Information Agency (1978-1981).
