Martha Dickinson Bianchi correspondence concerning publication of the poetry of Emily Dickinson, 1881-1943 (inclusive), 1925-1937 (bulk).

This collection largely consists of correspondence with Bianchi in regard to her work and research into the life, letters, and poetry of Emily Dickinson. The Bianchi side of the correspondence consists mainly of carbon copies of letters written by Bianchi or her coeditor, Alfred Leete Hampson. Series I includes correspondence with publishers and periodical publications as well as invoices and royalty statements. Also included are notes and correspondence related to the sale of Dickinson manuscripts and some of Bianchi's research notes and drafts for her writings on Dickinson. Series II is primarily letters with associated materials from assorted individuals to Bianchi about her work on Dickinson.

Martha Dickinson Bianchi (1866-1943) was the niece of Emily Dickinson (1830-1886), and daughter of William Austin Dickinson (1829-1895) and Susan Huntington Dickinson (1830-1913). As the sole surviving member of the Dickinson family, she edited several collections of Emily Dickinson's work, and wrote two Dickinson biographies. Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts, on December 10, 1830 to Edward Dickinson (AC 1823) and Emily Norcross Dickinson. She attended Amherst Academy from 1840 to 1847, then enrolled at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary from 1847 to 1848.
