Consists of business and personal correspondence, political papers, speeches and other writings, photographs, clippings, and other printed material. The correspondence emphasizes Herter's activities after his tenure as secretary of state ended in 1961 and his interests in such organizations as the Atlantic Institute, Foreign Service Educational Foundation, Middle East Institute, and the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins. Personal correspondence consists mainly of family letters. Political papers include material from his gubernatorial campaigns and correspondence concerning the 1964 Republican Party convention. Speeches and other writings reflect Herter's interest in foreign affairs and international trade.
