Robert Bennet Forbes papers, 1923-1944.

Papers of Robert Bennet Forbes (called Ben) of Westwood and Boston, Mass. include letters written to his father Allan, mother Josephine, sister Phyllis, and brothers Allan, James Murray, and Henry Ashton Crosby Forbes while he was a child at home, ca. 1923-24, and at Aiken Preparatory School in Aiken, South Carolina, 1925-30, and a teenager at Milton Academy in Milton, Mass., 1930-33. Letters pertain to his studies, polo lessons and matches, involvement in clubs and organizations, family matters, health, and time spent with friends; and include sketches and drawings. Also includes letters written to Ben's parents and wife Elizabeth McKean Forbes while a student at Harvard College, 1935-39, and while serving as a North Atlantic Mine Sweeper in the United States Navy in World War II, 1942-44; and military and biographical information about Ben gathered by his father Allan after his death in 1944.
