The International Pacific Salmon Fisheries Commission was established in 1937 as part of an agreement between Canada and the United States to regulate fisheries on sockeye salmon bound for the Fraser River. A protocol governing pink salmon was added in 1957. The two countries continued to operate under the provisions of the agreement until 1985 and the passage of the Pacific Salmon Treaty, which replaced the IPSFC with the Pacific Salmon Commission.
