Larry Janiak was born in Chicago. While enrolled at the Lane Technical Vocational Public High School, Janiak helped to create two animated films, the first such films ever made by students in the Chicago Board of Education system. Janiak later studied at the Institute of Design at I.I.T. and the Art Institute of Chicago.
