Papers and photographs, 1944-1997, (bulk 1966-1975).

Papers and photographs of Clyde E. Bay, who served with Merrill's Marauders during World War II and worked for the United States Department of State's Agency for International Development (AID) as an agricultural advisor to Vietnam from 1966 to 1975. The majority of the collection concerns Bay's service with AID in the late 1960's, including numerous packets of background information about Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries. There are several reports from other AID workers about progress made in increasing and improving conditions in Vietnam. A reminiscence recounts Bay's final days in Vietnam and his flight from Saigon in 1975. Also included are travel documents and ephemera from Bay's trip to Vietnam in 1997. There are a few documents relating to Bay's World War II service, though nothing that gives detail about his duties. Two Chinese language books reflect his need to learn a regional language during his service in Burma. There are also some handwritten notes regarding his impressions of Burma. Photographs consist of shots of Vietnam; some presumably from his service there during the war and others from his 1997 vacation.
