Ellen David Friedman Rainbow Coalition collection, 1986-1987.

The Ellen David Friedman Rainbow Coalition of Vermont collection contains materials about the Coalition and its activities assembled by Ms. David Friedman in her role as a member of the Steering Committee. The materials include documents defining the purpose of the Coalition, bylaws, and minutes of the organization. Also included is a Statement of Principles for the Coalition dated May 10, 1986. There is also material related to Jesse Jackson's 1988 presidential bid, including two letters from David Friedman in late 1986 and early 1987 to Jackson encouraging him to visit Vermont. There is a letter from Jackson in his role as President of the National Rainbow Coalition to David Friedman in early 1987, congratulating the Rainbow Coalition of Vermont for their organizing efforts. Additionally, the collection includes both information sent to Ms. David Friedman from other organizations seeking partnerships with the Coalition and materials pertaining to the campaign of Bernard Sanders for Governor of Vermont in 1986, as well as an article about his role as mayor of Burlington.
