Orderly books, 1779-1780.

Orderly books, June 11, 1779 - September 26, 1780. Most have had some pages torn out. Several kept by the adjutant, Peter Taulman. They cover the regiment's service in Sullivan's Indian expedition, time in winter quarters at Morristown, and time at Preakness, Peekskill, Teaneck, Steenrapie, Stony Point, and Verplanck's Point. They contain headquarters, division, brigade, wing and regimental orders; the last volume also contains garrison orders for Stony Point and Verplanck's Point. They include material on courts-martial, hygiene in camp, supplies and shortages (shoes being a particular problem) and some detailed discussion of uniforms and marks of rank. Some have lists of words written inside the covers, perhaps for use as passwords.
