Summary: Correspondence, reminiscences, manuscripts and page proofs relating to Brigg's family genealogy of the Briggs family, 1254-1937, and the Cabot family, 1475-1927, and his travels in the Southwest and Mexico. Typed reminiscences contain extracts of information in Briggs book Arizona and New Mexico in 1881, California in 1886, and Mexico in 1891 and include mentions of the Palace Hotel in Tucson, lifestyles in Tucson and Tombstone, and an account of the 1891 Gila River flooding. A handwritten draft of this book is also present. There is correspondence with AHS as well as two original letters written by Briggs' sister, Velma, who accompanied him on his 1882 trip to Arizona, briefly providing her impressions of Tucson and San Xavier Mission.

Briggs (Medical College of Virginia, M.D. 1899) practiced medicine in Boston, Mass. and was instrumental in founding the Boston Psychopathic Hospital and Metropolitan State Hospital. His great interest was forensic psychiatry. The so-called "Briggs Law" of Massachusetts can be credited to his influence; this provides for a mental examination before trial of all persons indicted for a felony in the state.
