Also including five minute paper presented by Don Saunders, Common Roots: Cardinal Bernadin, (2 sheets), re life and death of Joseph Cardinal Bernadin, a native of Columbia, SC.; and a paragraph re astronomer, mathemetician, and former USC faculty member James Wallace (1783-1851) by Mike Schuette. A native of Kilkenny, Ireland, Wallace served as a Jesuit priest, and as professor of mathematics at Columbia University and Georgetown University prior to his arrival at South Carolina College in 1820; after leaving USC, he resided on a small farm in Lexington District, S.C., until his death in 1851.
