Born in New York City in 1930 and educated at City College of New York and Columbia University, Scheffler began working as a copy boy for CBS before moving up to "CBS Evening News" as a writer, editor, and reporter in 1951. In 1964 he began to produce documentaries, becoming producer of "60 Minutes" in 1971 and senior producer in 1980. His work has been recognized with the Emmy, the Peabody, and the Colubia-duPont awards. Scheffler retired in 2003 after more than 50 year...
