Will arrange for the forwarding of two copies of "the great illustrated work of Catlin ... as soon as it issued from the press" (i.e. George Catlin, "Illustrations of the manners, customs, and condition of the North American Indians", 7th. ed. [London: H.G. Bohn, 1848]), as well as an Indian relic, if he can obtain one from his friend Catlin; encloses an autograph letter from John Paul Jones to Thomas Jefferson, and the commission granted to Stephen Decatur [Sr., for the ship Royal Louis, 1781]; and comments on various points in his "Life and character of the Chevalier John Paul Jones" (1825), including Jones's plan to invade England.
