Correspondence, speeches, essays, clippings, and other papers, relating to Ohio political leaders, judges, and lawyers, and Johnson's career. Many of the letters were written in 1910 and 1916 when Johnson was a candidate for election to the Ohio Supreme Court, and after his resignation from the court in 1922. Supreme Court of Ohio originated with Ohio 1802 constitution. Initially two judges and later four were appointed by the legislature, travelling to individual counties where terms were held once each year.
