Was a newspaper reporter and held various public and private offices including U.S. representative from Michigan's 1st district to the Sixty-eighth Congress, as a Democrat (March 4, 1923-March 3, 1925), and to the Seventieth, Seventy-first, and Seventy-second Congresses as Republican (March 4, 1927-March 3, 1933).
