Letter, 1858 Dec. 15, Woodlands, Midway P.O., to Henry P. Dale.

Responding to a request for [Francis] Marion and [William] Moultrie autographs but reporting that his papers were packed away and not immediately accessible, bemoaning the fact that death had plagued his household throughout the year, and noting that his profession required "constant devotion," made more difficult by his plantation interests, the responsibility for more than seventy slaves and a large family, and his own declining health.
