John B. Frantz (1932- ) is an emeritus member of Penn State's Department of History, with a special interest in Pennsylvania during the Colonial and Revolutionary War periods. Frantz was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He secured his bachelor's degree from Franklin and Marshall College in 1954, and his master's degree and doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in 1956 and 1961, respectively. The Pennsylvania Humanities Council designated the year 1985 as "The Year of the Pennsylvania Writer."
