Ballads translated from the German and illustrated by L.E.G., 1854.

The poems are arranged with the German on the left and English on the right. There are 25 poems from German (Ludwig Uhland, August Platen, Johann Goethe, Emanuel Geibel). The calligraphy is ornate. The German pages are adorned simply with a black floral or geometric border. Each English page is decorated in the style of an illuminated manuscript. At the end is a single poem, written in French and in normal handwriting, "On the death of A.L., aged 17 months," signed L.E.G.
