To his excellency Thomas Mifflin, Governor of Pennsylvania, 1798.

Manuscript petition to Governor Mifflin of Pennsylvania from citizens of Sumerset Township, Sumerset County, requesting a Justice of the Peace be established in their community. They explain the current hardships involved in seeing a Justice of the Peace, and recommend Jacob Tungman for the position. Signed at the bottom by 36 citizens, and dated 1798. Docketing on verso, 15 Jan. 1799, probably by an advisor to the Governor. Unfolded, 32 x 37 cm.
