The collection includes five photographs and one painting of James Dean. One photograph is an enlarged image of Dean posing with his high school basketball team. Another photograph shows Dean in Roy Schatt's studio. Other images include portraits of Dean taken by Roy Schatt. The collection also includes an oil on canvas painting of James Dean done by Indianapolis artist Mark Dillman in 1989. The work was commissioned by the Indiana Historical Society Press editors for the fall 1989 issue of "Traces." The painting is based on a photograph taken by Fred Wood when James Dean attended a dance at Fairmont High School in February 1955.
