Railroad bridge structural drawings, 1891-1977.

A collection of 49 drawings, mainly of railroad bridge structures, representing 6 railways in British Columbia, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, and Washington State. In the late 1970s, Burlington Northern's St. Paul (Minn.) shop personnel gave these drawings to Leslie C. Helmes, Jr., a salesman for Huck Manufacturing (Detroit, Michigan), which marketed its cold steel fastening systems to midwestern railroads. The majority of the drawings, 32, are for Great Northern (1902-1967) and 7 more for Vancouver, Victoria and Eastern Railway and Navigation Company (1914-1915). Other represented railways are Park Rapids and Leech Lake with 4 (1898), Burlington Northern with 3 (1970-1977), Minneapolis Western with 2 (1891), and Duluth and Superior Bridge Company with 1 (1896). Notations on several drawings indicate the drawing was voided or the bridge never built. Park Rapids and Leech Lakes' drawings are of proposed crossings over waterways rather than of structures. Minneapolis Western's are for a bridge down river of the Stone Arch Bridge that was destroyed February 14, 1952.
