Papers of Mass. legislator Francis W. Byrd of Walpole, Mass., 1852-1959, pertaining to the Free Soil Party and Charles Francis Adams (1807-1886). Papers include typewritten circulars by Byrd, when he was the chairman of the Free Democratic 3rd District Committee of the Free Soil Party, promoting Adams for United States Congress in 1852; letters received by Byrd from Adams, 1860-61, pertaining to Adams' work as a Congressman; and a letter received by Byrd from Adams' son Charles Francis Adams, 1889, pertaining to Byrd's friendship with his father. Also includes a letter received by Charles [Sumner Bird] (called Charley) from Brooks Adams, 1911, pertaining to the death of Charles mother; correspondence between Charles Sumner Bird and Charles Francis Adams (1910-1999), 1959, pertaining to the papers and politics in the United States; and a typescript copy of campaign literature used during John Quincy Adams presidential election in 1824.
