Manly Wade Wellman (1903-1986) was an author best known for his fantasy and horror stories set in the Appalachian Mountains. He was born in Angola, where his father was a physician at a British medical outpost. E. Hoffmann Price was born in California, educated at the US Military Academy, and served in World War I in the US Cavalry. He turned to full time writing in the 1930s and was a prolific writer of pulp fiction including adventure, western, and weird fiction.
