Pacific Guano Company collection, 1859-2008.

The collection provides general information about the guano industry as well as specific information about the rise and fall of the company. Includes copy of William Bunting's A Day's Work, Vol. II (2000); text of the Guano Act of Aug. 18, 1856; an 1850 U.S. Senate resolution providing insight into the industry; newspaper articles and histories written by Prince S. Crowell and other Woods Hole residents, providing information on the 1856 origin and growth of the company; reports (1889) of a committee investigating the company's failure; and ephemera including photographs and maps of the factory, advertising booklets, newspaper advertisements, letters to and from company principals, insurance policy, advertising fan, and a fertilizer bag (1880s).
