Manuscript notebook containing sermon notes and outlines, notes about acquisition of books for his library, financial accounts of travel expenses to Glasgow and Edinburgh, personal memoranda kept by Witherspoon while he was a Presbyterian minister in Paisley, Scotland, and notes pertaining to his legal and financial difficulties in the years 1762-1764 resulting from accusations that he made against one John Snodgrass (possibly John Snodgrass, 1744-1797) and friends for drunken profanity, sacrilegious celebration, and immoral conduct. Bound with a 72 p. printed book, "The Universal Scots Almanack for the year of our Lord MDCCLXIII" (Edinburgh : Printed by Walter Ruddiman, John Richardson and Co., 1763).

John Witherspoon (February 5, 1723 – November 15, 1794) was a Scottish American Presbyterian minister, educator, farmer, slaveholder, and a Founding Father of the United States.
