Ruth Fuller was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1901. An accomplished swimmer, Fuller won several competitions in the Boston area as a teenager. She also participated in many sports while attending Radcliffe College (A.B. 1925). She attended Boston University, earning an M.A. in social work in 1940. Following graduation, she was a social worker in Boston. Choosing not to marry, she traveled with friends and family to Nassau, Bahamas, and to Venezuela via cruise ships.
